Abstract
Hospitals in Bilaspur operate continuously and rely on shift systems to maintain round-the-clock patient care. The way shifts are designed, allocated and communicated may influence employee fatigue, work-life balance, job satisfaction and performance. This study examines the relationship between perceived shift-management quality and employee performance in hospitals in Bilaspur. A quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational design is presented using a sample of 200 hospital employees across clinical and non-clinical departments. A structured five-point Likert questionnaire is assumed, and descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and simple linear regression are applied. In the simulated dataset, shift-management quality and employee performance are positively correlated (r = 0.36, p < .001), indicating that employees reporting better shift management also tend to report higher performance. The estimated regression slope is 0.32. The null hypothesis of no association is rejected at the 5% significance level. The paper concludes that fair and predictable rosters, adequate rest intervals, employee participation, appropriate staffing and transparent shift-swapping procedures are important management priorities.
